Valisure, an independent quality assurance company published an article on May 24, 2021, requesting the FDA to recall numerous sunscreens including several Johnson & Johnson products due to the presence of benzene. In a press release issued by Johnson & Johnson, benzene is not an ingredient in Johnson & Johnson products and the company is investigating its presence in the recalled sunscreens.Īccording to an article by Reuters, David Light, Chief Executive of Valisure said that the presence of benzene in the sunscreen products could be a result of contaminated raw materials used. All recalled products are aerosol sunscreen products.
